H. E. Ambassador Tariq Al-Ansari received H. E. Claude Morel, Ambassador of the Republic of Seychelles, at his office at the Embassy. The parties discussed ways and means of cooperation between the Republic of South Africa, Seychelles and Qatar and other matters of mutual and trilateral interest between the respective countries.

His Excellency Ambassador Tariq Al-Ansari attended the South African launch of the Amnesty International report on Israel’s apartheid against Palestinians. The event was co-hosted by the Afro-Middle East Centre (AMEC), Amnesty International, the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) South Africa and the Centre for Mediation in Africa at the University of Pretoria. Saleh Hijazi of the Jerusalem office of Amnesty International delivered the keynote address. The panelist’s included South Africa’s former Intelligence Minister Ronnie Kasrils, and Zane Dangor of DIRCO. The launch and the related discussions was moderated by Zeenat Adam of AMEC.

His Excellency Ambassador Tariq Al-Ansari met with General Fabian Zimpande "Zakes" Msimang of the Department of Military Veterans and Iqbal Parker, a veteran of Umkhonto We Sizwe (Spear of the Nation), the military arm of the ANC during the struggle for liberation in South Africa. Msimang is a South African Air Force veteran who served as the Chief of the South African Air Force. The meeting follows closely upon the address of President Ramaphosa on Armed Forces Day in South Africa on Monday – a day which commemorates the sinking of the troopship SS Mendi in the English Channel on 21 February 1917 in the name of struggle and rival for freedom.

Ambassador Tariq Al-Ansari hosted a get-together luncheon at his residence in honour of South African corporate sector and business representatives from various agencies and companies, including SA Chamber of commerce and industry. The gathering was an opportunity to build bridges, brain storming about range of mutual investment, trade, economic and energy opportunities between South Africa and Qatar. He also shared information about Qatar’s preparation for FIFA World Cup 2022 where South African business community members are also partnering in. DIRCO was also represented.

HE Ambassador Tariq Al-Ansari hosted a get-together luncheon at his residence for members of the South African media houses and agencies. He briefed them about Qatar policy, vision, the role of free and constructive media as Qatari principled pillar and shared information about Qatar’s state of preparation for FIFA World Cup 2022 taking place in Qatar during November-December.

His Excellency Ambassador Tariq Al Ansari met with Dr Gokhan Kahraman, Energy counselor at Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources based in Pretoria. The parties discussed Energy cooperation between South Africa and Turkey.

His Excellency Tariq Al Ansari met with Honourable Machesetsa Mofomobe, Minister of Small Business,Development, Cooperatives and Marketing in the Kingdom of Lesotho. The parties discussed the strengthening of bilateral trade and political relations between the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Lesotho.

HE Ambassador Tariq Al Ansari hosted a get-together luncheon at his official residence on Thursday 17 February 2022. The event was attended by ambassadors of different countries to South Africa and included Cuba, Cyprus, Lesotho,Namibia, Bulgaria,Romania,Venezuela,Iraq,Mexico,Azerbaijan. The event was also attended by the South African ambassador to Qatar.

Head of Government of the Western Cape meets the Ambassador of the State of Qatar His Excellency Alan Wendy, Prime Minister of the Western Cape Province, and its Director General Harry Melila met with the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Republic of South Africa Tariq Ali Faraj Al Ansari. During the meeting, the two parties discussed the possibilities of investing in the Western Cape Province by Qatari investors. As one of the main investment destinations on the African continent and indeed in the world, it was agreed that more participations would take place in the near future.

The Embassy of the State of Qatar in the Republic of South Africa organized a sports event at a sports centre in Pretoria to commemorate the National Sports Day of the State of Qatar. The event was led by His Excellency Ambassador Tariq Ali Faraj Al Ansari, and attended by members of diplomatic missions, embassy staff and prominent South African sports figures which included the President of the South African Football Association, Mr Danny Jordaan.
